Sky Movie Celebrates The Italian Job’s World Premiere in HD,
‘Michael Caine Season,’ and Sir Michael Caine’s75th Birthday

The world’s only complete set of original replica Minis from The Italian Job will be in Manchester on Tuesday, March 4th as part of a national tour to celebrate Sir Michael Caine’s 75th birthday, the The Italian Job’s world premiere in HD and the ‘Caine Season’ on Sky Movies.

These lovingly restored red, blue and white classics will tour through Glasgow, stopping at iconic locations throughout the city, escorting residents about town with complementary rides and being available to The Italian Job enthusiasts are drivers to answer questions.

Matthew Field, author of The Making of The Italian Job and director of Paramount’s Home Entertainment three-part documentary said, “these lovingly restored Italian Job replica Minis are the only known to exist in the world. The attention to detail is exceptional - right down to the correct licence plate numbers!"

From Sunday, March 9th for a week on Sky Movies, “The Caine Season – from Alfie to Zulu” will showcase 10 of the British legend’s finest films and include the HD world premieres of The Italian Job (March 16th) and Zulu (March 9th). The tribute is supplemented by a specially commissioned in-depth 30 minute programme looking at his career.

Sir Michael Caine said, “It’s fantastic that The Italian Job and Zulu are being remastered... I love HD, it’s so difficult to watch anything else once you’ve watched it in HD. Of course it’s very unforgiving, especially on young beautiful ladies, but thank god I’m old, I don’t care.”

Ian Lewis, Director of Sky Movies and Sky Box Office, said, “We felt that it was appropriate to celebrate the 75th birthday of one of Britain’s finest screen actors by making Zulu and The Italian Job available to Sky HD subscribers. Touring the complete set of original replica minis is a great way to celebrate our commitment to the ‘Caine Season’ and what we’ve done to two of his iconic films.”

“Watching a classic title re-mastered in HD is like viewing a restored painting. The experience is deeper, more immersive and ultimately far more satisfying. Yet we found that many great classic films, particularly British titles, are still to be re-mastered. These films are a part of our cultural heritage and it’s vital that they are made available to be seen in the best possible format,” said Lewis.

The Italian Job, starring Sir Michael Caine and Noel Coward, takes us on the nostalgic journey around Charlie Croker’s (Michael Caine) attempt to stage a gold bullion robbery in Turin, to be achieved by sabotaging the city's traffic-control computer and escaping in nippy mini getaway cars along a carefully planned route throughout Turin and London. Originally released in 1969, The Italian Job has been continually heralded as one of the most iconic films in British cinematic history.
