Northern Funk returns

RETURN OF N’ FUNK

From 1996 to 2006 Northern Funk was Manchester’s premier Friday function. Launched at the Attic nightclub as a spin off to our highly successful Funkademia nights before moving onto Subspace & Zumeba selling out all three venues every single Friday for 10 years.

When Zumeba was sold on in 2006 we thought it was probably right to put both Northern Funk & Funkademia to bed – 10 years is a long time in clubland. However if Alex Ferguson can change his mind about retiring so can we. We received several offers to re-launch our nights & the 1 Central St one proved too good to turn down thus Funkademia came back to life in 2007. We’ve now decided to re-launch N-Funk for a number of reasons:

• the re-launch of our Funkademia night last year at 1 Central Street has proved a massive success & we are turning crowds of people away each week
• the recent rival of the original soul sound through contemporary artists like Duffy, Amy Winehouse, Gnarls Barclay, Sam Sparro etc, and probably most importantly,
• because of the number of requests we get from our 18,000 Funkademia \ Northern Funk members to bring it back

To satisfy these requests and test the water we did a one off Northern Funk night over Christmas which was rammed & a cracking night. We knew then the time was right to dust down the old vinyl & go for it again.

The re-launch date is Friday 25th April and Northern Funk will take place every Friday thereafter at 1 Central Street nightclub. Anchoring the decks will be DJ’s Fritz Great Lakes & Myk Nolan, providing suitable support will be the rest of the Funkademia DJ team Trafford Lovething, Jason Vereker, Good For the Soul, Payney, Dave Booth & Jon Busstop.

There will be a new twist to N-Funk this time though. Breaking with our format of uniquely pre ’79 soulfunk we will be mixing in the contemporary new artists whose inspiration derives from original soul. Hence expect to hear a playlist which could feature Marvin Gaye mixed with Duffy mixed with Aretha mixed with Gnarls Barclay mixed with Herbie Hancock mixed with Stettsasonic mixed with Issac Hayes mixed with Amy Winehouse …….I’m sure you get the drift.

Hope this explains everything. Any exposure you could provide would be much appreciated. For further information or guest list facilities contact the promotion team on :
