Friday 11th April:
Ed Banger Records!
DJ Feadz, DJ Mehdi, Vicarious Bliss, Prostitutes + Policemen, V’s Sex With Robots
Just three weeks after ripping up our Easter Warehouse party along with SebastiAN, Busy P sends over three of his trusted party boys for another instalment of all things Ed Banger. DJ Feadz leaves Uffie popping her glock in Paris and is joined by DJ Medhi and Vicarious Bliss for a sonic onslaught of epic proportions.
Whist we probably aren’t supposed to have favourites in the office, we have to admit that we are really quite parshal to DJ Feadz. Having worked with the likes of Mr. Oizo early on in his career, Feadz has trailblazed his way through releases on uber cool Berlin label B-Pitch Control aswell as his mountain of work on Ed Banger. Keep an eye out for tracks off his ace new “Happy Meal” EP this Friday from a DJ with a truly unique style and sound.
Do you know what they call DJ Mehdi in France? They call him the “French Pharrel”. Why? Because he has that golden touch and whatever he makes, remixes or produces tends to be of top class quality. Through the years he’s worked with Daft Punk, MC Solaar, Chromeo, Cassius and Busy P on projects that have crossed genres and spanned a hundred copy cat attempts. Like Feadz, Mehdi is no slouch when it comes to spinning records so expect fireworks when the two get a rare chance to man the decks together.
Famed for his tune “Theme From Vicarious Bliss” (as played by everyone from 2ManyDJ’s to Dave Clarke) is a man very much in demand with Ladytron, N*E*R*D, and The Mystery Jets all calling upon his remix and production skills. Our tip for the Ed Banger artist most likely to breakthrough in 2008, Mr. Bliss plays bass heavy electro and heads up the support in the main room.

So there’s the low down. But then again you know what to expect from this lot by now…mad 80’s samples, electroid craziness, stabbing synths, a huge heap of wonkyness and a few hundred people going mental. Who said the French were boring?! See you down the front!
Don’t forget the loft…
Whilst the French do their thing in the main room, don’t forget to check out the loft. Two of Manchester’s premier electro collectives, Prostitutes & Policeman and Sex With Robots, battle it out for the whole night.
Saturday 12th April:
Derrick Carter + Carl Craig
Derrick Carter [ 5hr anything goes set ]
Carl Craig, Krysko, Greg Lord
One for lovers of all things Chicago and Detroit on Saturday 12th April as two of the most revered artists in modern day house and techno join up for a very special night. Derrick Carter has long been a favourite in these parts with epic, tequila soaked DJ sets trademarked by Carter’s unmistakable “boompty boomp” sound and jacked up Chicago beats. Expect something a little different this time around as Carter embarks on a five hour “anything goes” set likely to take in disco, funk, italo, acid and of course, Chicago house.
Perhaps more exciting is that whilst this goes on in the main room, Carl Craig takes control of the loft. Dancefloor experimentalist and top Detroit techno producer Carl Craig has few equals in terms of the artistry, influence, and diversity of his recordings. A key player in Detroit techno’s second wave, Carl Craig continues to wow through his soul infused productions and hugely influential Planet E label. His appearance in such an intimate and atmospheric space should provide one of the highlights of our short tenure of 112-116 Princess Street.
Five of the best Carl Craig productions and remixes:
Detroit Experiment – “Think Twice”
CC takes Donald Bryd’s jazz-funk classic, throws in some of the best jazz, funk and soul players that Detroit has to offer and comes up with this. Incredible Detroit house that builds and builds and makes dancefloors explode. A favorite a Manchester’s sadly departed Electric Chair.
Innerzone Orchestra – “Bug In A Bass Bin”.
Said to be CC most influential record. Primarily a techno – jazz track, jungle produces such as Goldie, Fabio and Grooverider picked up the record and began playing it at vastly greater speeds than the records was originally intended for. As a result, Drum N Bass was born.
Paperclip People – “Throw”.
A record played by generations of house and techno DJ’s drawn to a timeless record that combines drama, spontaneity and a little bit of craziness. Jumps out of modern DJ sets like a demented jack in the box and never fails to get a dance floor moving.
Incognito – “Out Of The Storm (C’s Planet E Special Mix)”
CC takes Incognito’s jazz – funk original and makes an epic down tempo record drenched in soul. Not a tune that your likely to hear in a club, this is said to be one of CC personal favorites as he takes a beautiful piece of music and adds an unmistakable Detroit twist.
Theo Parrish – “Falling Up (Carl Craig Remix)”
CC biggest tract of recent years and acclaimed by critics and dancefloors like. Described by CC himself as “a great experiment” the track came with very few parts meaning CC had to recreate virtually the entire record. In a word: Huge!
